Korean glass skin refers to a skincare trend that promotes a luminous, clear, and intensely hydrated complexion, resembling the smooth and reflective surface of glass. This beauty ideal has gained immense popularity, particularly on platforms like Instagram.
The rise of Instagram as a visual platform has allowed beauty trends like glass skin to flourish. Influencers and beauty enthusiasts share their routines, showcasing stunning before-and-after transformations that inspire others to try the look.
The glass skin look is aimed to be a more natural look resonating beautiful skin with a healthier dewy appearance. This can appear more youthful.
However with social media posts, it seems as if everyone has a solution. Being a bit addicted to the promise of a product, i have bought way too many only to be disappointed.
In reality i realise i have not really seen any one walking around with dewy glossy skin.
Can it be achieved.
There are 2 ways that this can achieved:
a. Skin looks immediately glossy after putting on moisturiser but its short lived
b. putting thick products on which are intense moisturisers which remain on the skin
The reason that the above 2 work is that both of these add a translucent layer which reflects light.
So what is achievable
Beautiful skin with great texture provides the basis of dewy skin. However it may not glisten as if oil has been applied to it. It does however provide a great foundation to apply other illuminators which have the effect of creating glassy skin.
This is a better way to achieve the glow look as the illuminators are not usually thick and sticky.
The issue with trying so many different promises of glowy skin is the impact it has on your skin. Because we are ordering it online, there s no real oversight on the products or ingredients it contains. Additionally, to create the glossy look, these products have to be thick. Unfortunately if this is used on acne prone skin or sensitive skin, breakouts can result.
So when i look for an illuminator i want something that looks natural and does nt have glitter in it w hich catches the light when it sets. Its way too an obvious look. There are 3 main products that i can recommend, that create a very natural glowing look without looking as if you have something sticky on your face. These are my recommendations:
Refy illuminating gloss $42
images are from their website below
Victoria Beckham Illuminator $135
Merit Day glow $51
All these products are well known brands, all with clean ingredients, and they actually achieve what they are selling!
