Crows Feet

General

As we get older, fine lines appear around the eyes. The skin around the eyes is very thin, and with repetitive muscle movement, lines can form either with facial movement or at rest. In general, the ‘at rest “lines are less likely to be changed significantly from standard treatments. However, the stronger lines especially with facial expressions can be reduced.

Options

Crows feet occur as a result of the thinner skin around the eye and repeated contractions of the muscle around the eye.  This is a circular muscle known as orbicularis oculi.  Additionally, sun damage and smoking can make this area worse.

The aim in addressing this area is to aim for treatment of the different layers.

With any treatment it is important not to impact the surrounding muscles of the face which can result in creating an artificial smile.

This area can be improved by different treatments including:

  • mesotreatment

  • skin moisturisers with prescriptive additives

  • medical equipment focussed on the dermal layer

  • lifting the skin underneath the lines

  • relaxing the muscle

With some of the meso treatment and skin devices, our main aim is to stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen which improves the skin texture as it thickens the dermis

Potential side effects

This area is quite a vascular area, and it is possible to develop small bruises.

If this occurs, it is recommended that a cream be applied after treatment and/or arnica tablets be taken.  The bruises will generally heal within a few days and are usually a greyish colour which can be covered with concealer.

This area can also become swollen.

Side effects and Adverse events can be discussed at the time of your consultation.  They will be further documented in the consent form which will provided to you at the time of the consultation.
